Togakure Ryû Ryûha

Togakure Ryû Ninpô Taijutsu

Hidden Door School Ninpô Taijutsu (Ninjutsu)

Sôke (family head) Masaaki Hatsumi is the 34th Grandmaster of the Togakure Ryû. This is the main lineage of the Bujinkan,  in which the eight (8) other Ryû, were assimilated. This "coming together" of the nine (9) Ryû of the Bujinkan had taken several hundred years to complete.

Togakure Ryû (school) was named after Togakure Daisuke, several generations after his death. Daisuke is reported to have been a vassal of Kiso Yoshinaka. He had learned various military arts from his uncle Kagakure Doshi. This training included both Koshijutsu and Kenjutsu, both of which are still practiced. Togakure Ryû has been called by many names through time. It was initially called Togakure Ryû Happôhiken.

Iga Ninja such as Momochi Sandayû and others are reported to have studied this Ryû too. It is also believed that they had passed this training to the Natori family of Kishû clan. The Toda family is believed to have studied Togakure Ryû under the Natori Family too, this was in or around the 17th century.

Togakure Ryû is known for its use of several "secret" or otherwise generally unknown weapons.

  • Tekagi (hand claws) and Ashikagi (foot claws) - These Ningu (tools of subtle perseverance) are believed to have originated from Tekkô, or Japanese gauntlets used to cover the back of the hand.

  • Senban (Shuriken) Nage, sharp plate throwing - These Senban (sharp plates) were generally flat square pieces of iron with sharpened edges and a hole in it's center. Happôken (eight-point Shuriken) and Bôshuriken were also used.

  • Shinodake (thin bamboo), a Suiki (water tool) used in Suiren (water training). A Shinodake is a very thin bamboo tube used for breathing when under water. It is generally believed to be about four (4) feet in length, and very thin in diameter. This devise is different than a Mizu-zutsu (water tube), also sometimes referred to as a Suizutsu (breathing tube), which are generally shorter in length and much thicker in diameter.

Additional information will be added here soon. Please return again in the near future!
