This eight (8) hour program is designed to teach officers how to protect
their handgun from being taken from them. Handgun retention while the
weapon is holstered and when the weapon is drawn are both covered.
Many programs teach retention methods that are designed to simply knock
the attacker's hands off of the weapon. Unfortunately, knocking the hands
off, does nothing to stop the attacker, or his or her determination to
attack. Our program is designed to protect the weapon while simultaneously
incapacitating the attacker in order to stop the attack. Statistics have
shown that if an aggressor makes a second attack to an officer's weapon
the officer's weapon is taken 90% of the time! What does that tell us?
That means that if the firearm is attacked, the very first attack must
be the very last one. The aggressor must be incapacitated during the
first attempt at taking the officer's weapon!
Officers learn a complete system of handgun retention. This system is
totally integrated with our other programs. Each officer learns how to
defend their weapon against attacks from the front, sides, and rear
while the weapon is drawn and holstered. Training also includes
defending the weapon while the "officer" is being attacked by
punches, kicks, grabs, chokes, bear hugs, and while lying on the ground.
This program teaches the officer's techniques that secure the weapon
and quickly incapacitate the aggressor, allowing the officer to
disengage. Holsters, an important part of handgun safety, are also
examined, to insure that officers know how to select the safest holsters
available for their specific needs.
