One Hand Grip

Your Strong Hand is placed on the grip portion. The baton should feel "balanced" in your Strong Hand.


Lesson and Minimum Acceptable Performance Standards

  • Grasp the grip portion of the baton with your Strong Hand one to two inches from the grip end.

  • The thumb and index finger on your Strong Hand are the key to maintaining control of the one-hand grip and should always be touching one another.

Two Hand GripTwo-Handed Grip

Your Strong Hand is placed on the grip portion. Your Support Hand is placed (palm down) on the long portion of the baton.


Lesson and Minimum Acceptable Performance Standards

  • Grasp the grip portion of the baton with your Strong Hand one to two inches from the grip end.

  • Grasp the long portion with your Support Hand (palm down) about two inches from the long end of the baton.

  • The thumb and index finger on your Strong Hand are the key to maintaining control of the Two-Handed Grip while the thumb and index finger of your Support Hand support the long portion of the baton.

  • The palm of the Support Hand is on top of the long portion rather than below the long portion of the baton.
