Reverse Strike
Reverse Strike

The Reverse Strike is quick and effective. It can be employed in two ways. First, it can be employed in a horizontal manner. Secondly, it can be employed in a downward diagonal manner to upset a person's balance in a leg.

The Reverse Strike is used as a counter-strike when a person is trying to injure you. The purpose is to stop the hostile act. When selecting available targets, use the principles set forth in your agency's Use of Force Policy or the Monadnock Baton Chart.

Use a One-Hand Carry Position, quickly move your baton across your body from your Support-Side to your Strong-Side. Be sure your palm is down as you deliver this counter-strike technique in a horizontal or downward diagonal manner. Following the Reverse Strike, assess the situation, then take appropriate follow-up action as needed.

Lesson and Minimum Acceptable Performance Standards

  • Assume a One-Hand Carry Position.

  • Quickly move your baton across your body from your Support-Side to your Strong-Side.

  • Following the Reverse Strike, assess the situation, then take appropriate follow-up action as needed.

Reverse Strike

For any counter-strike technique to be effective, you must follow-through with the technique when it makes contact with the threat or is used to upset the person's balance.

A Pattern of Movement such as the Forward Shuffle, Forward Pivot, Strong Sidestep, Support Sidestep or Rear Pivot may enhance this technique.
