A Support-Side Horizontal Strike is a quick and effective follow-up technique to a
Strong-Side Block, Middle Block, or
Support-Side Block.
The Strong-Side Horizontal Strike is used as a counter-strike when a person is trying to injure you. The purpose is to stop the hostile act. When selecting available targets, use the principles set forth in your agency's Use of Force policy and the
Monadnock Baton Chart.
Use the Two-Handed Carry Position
to rotate your baton in a horizontal manner. Pull back with your Strong Hand as your Support Hand drives the long portion or long end forward toward your target. The driving thrust of the long end or long portion should be horizontal in nature. Use both your hands and your Support-Side hip to generate power. Following a Support-Side Horizontal Strike, assess the situation, then take appropriate follow-up action as needed.
