Course Description
This program teaches officers how to prevent or lessen the
chance of a Multiple Assailant Attack, and when necessary, aggressively
defend themselves in order to disengage. Officers are taught how to
position themselves properly with multiple subjects/bystanders, while
remaining actively aware of the surrounding area. Officers are also
taught how to defend themselves from multiple aggressors. When assaulted
or aggressed upon, each officer learns how to quickly reposition
themselves to minimize how many aggressors can attack them at one time
(stacking), while aggressively incapacitating the assailants. Emphasis
it placed on incapacitating the assailants and disengaging as quickly as
possible.

Benefits to Participants
Proper positioning during the approach, interview,
and arrest procedures is covered first, for it limits the officer's susceptibility to attack.
Keeping aware of the entire area is stressed throughout the entire
class. The officer learns how to maintain control of a ‘proned out'
assailant while changing positions in order to watch other potential assailants.
In the event of an attack, the officer learns how to secure his weapons
while successfully defending himself against multiple assailants, by
incapacitating them, and disengaging. The officer also learns how to
effectively use his surroundings to
hinder an attack and/or assist in disengagement as the situation
develops.
Overall Program Benefits
This is a unique program designed around a solid core
of knowledge and skills. This core is fundamental to every class in this
series. A first time participant learns effective and safe techniques
for the ‘situational emphasis' of each class. Officers attending
additional classes learn new skills that are reinforced with the common
elements of Proper Body Movement—to avoid attacks and maintain a safe
position, Correct Leverage—necessary for techniques to work easily and
with minimum strength, and Balance Control—to direct and control an
assailant's equilibrium while the officer maintains his or her balance.
These three elements are vital for all Defensive Tactics skills, but are
usually not addressed adequately. The techniques presented are generally
non-aggressive in appearance. The skills are however, safe, easy to
learn, and very effective. This program allows an officer the
opportunity to learn new techniques while reinforcing the common
elements necessary for all Defensive Tactics skills.
